22.10.2024, Press Release :

Smart, smarter, TTZ Smart Production and Logistics: Bavaria's Minister President Dr Markus Söder and Markus Blume, Bavarian Minister of State for Science and the Arts, officially opened the Technology Transfer Centre in Leipheim at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) on 21 October 2024. During a tour of the TTZ Smart Production and Logistics learning and innovation factory, which is funded by Hightech Agenda Bayern (HTA), Prof. Dr Jürgen Grinninger and Prof. Dr Tobias Engel demonstrated how innovative technologies are used in a real value creation system to plan and operate sustainable, networked production and logistics. Guests included members of the state parliament Thorsten Freudenberger and Jenny Schack, district administrator Dr Hans Reichhart and the mayor of Leipheim, Christian Konrad.

HNU President Prof Dr Uta M. Feser welcomed the guests to the TTZ Smart Production and Logistics and thanked the representatives from the municipality, district and regional companies for their extraordinary commitment. "As a university of applied sciences, HNU stands for innovation, implementation strength and intensive networking. Every euro invested here brings high returns for science, business and society."

Opening speech by Dr Markus Söder

In his opening speech, Bavaria's Minister President Dr Markus Söder emphasised that the technology transfer centres are an important building block in Bavaria's strategy for responding to the economic and technological challenges of the future. "In the cosmos of ideas, the TTZ Leipheim is a shining star with a power university at its side. We want to generate added value and practical benefits for the economy from innovations in Bavaria. Bavaria strengthens SMEs, skilled trades and research. With the Bavarian High-Tech Agenda, we have launched the largest research offensive ever seen in Bavaria and Germany, totalling over 5.5 billion euros. The TTZ could not only provide a model for individual companies, but could also be a blueprint for many companies. Many thanks to everyone who has contributed to its success."

Greetings from Markus Blume

The Bavarian Minister of State for Science and the Arts, Markus Blume, said in his welcoming address: "Smart, Smarter, Leipheim: The new Leipheim TT Centre is the next premium address in the Swabian innovation region. At the interface between business and science, Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences is focussing on smart production and supply chains - two crucial areas for value creation and prosperity in the future. The extremely practice-orientated university meets the successful Swabian entrepreneurial spirit and the municipality establishes its own endowed professorship - a win-win-win situation with a shared formula for success: be innovative, stay successful! Many thanks to the successful TTZ members. They bring a portion of extra momentum to the region."

Tour of the learning and innovation factory

During the subsequent tour of the TTZ's learning and innovation factory, HNU professors Dr Jürgen Grinninger and Dr Tobias Engel presented various TTZ transfer projects. The centrepiece of the TTZ is a real drone production facility that can manufacture up to 500 drones a day at full capacity. The TTZ is thus shaping the transformation to a smart factory in which technologies such as AI, mobile robotics, VR/AR, digital twin or blockchain, as well as methods and principles from lean management and Industry 4.0 are applied in real life to demonstrate how sustainable, networked production and logistics can support the competitiveness of regional companies. In addition, the TTZ was able to develop the first Digital Supply Chain Twin, which not only reflects the application-oriented work of the TTZ, but also means great added value for companies. In addition to smart production and logistics, the TTZ's range of services also includes project and change management as well as organisational consulting for companies and associations.

About the TTZ Smart Production and Logistics

The TTZ supports companies in the region through knowledge and technology transfer as well as the development of sustainable, flexible, modular and networked production systems. This takes the form of training, consultancy or joint application-orientated research. The TTZ supports regional companies in the use of new technologies and strengthens their competitiveness. The Free State of Bavaria supports technology centres as part of the High-Tech Agenda in order to strengthen the development of key technologies, particularly in rural areas. After the TTZ Günzburg, the TTZ Smart Production and Logistics is already the second technology transfer centre at HNU.

The next TTZ Leipheim networking event will shed light on the future of AR/VR and AI in production and logistics and will take place on 21 November from 15:00 to 18:00. Participation is free of charge. Registration at: eveeno.com/253885380.
