HNU students tour the start-up nation of Israel

24.05.2023, Study:

Bachelor's and master's students from the Business Administration program traveled to Israel from May 8 to 13 to attend lectures in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and leadership. In addition, the junior business administration students were able to make contact with start-up executives.

A lecture by Stanislav Grünstein ("Lessons in Israeli Leadership"), which was devoted to the significance of the Israeli leadership style for the high innovative capacity of Israeli companies, was particularly well received by the HNU students. According to the speaker, the Israeli leadership style is essentially based on the relationship with employees, listening, and delegating leadership tasks to employees. As Stanislaw determined in the course of an empirical survey, these principles are actively practiced in Israel.

Furthermore, Eran Soroka (CMO and Founder of Beyond Virtual AI) spoke about the possibilities of an AI-based platform for learning foreign languages - as well as other skills - with the help of a Virtual Human.

Speaking as a strong female role model was Olivia Gorvy, Director of Partnerships at AI21 Labs. She shared the ways in which AI developed by AI21 Labs makes it possible to improve the ductus of a text and summarize long texts such as corporate reports. AI21 is one of a few companies in the world that itself has a sufficiently large LLM (Large Language Model; necessary basis for applications such as ChatGPT). In addition, Olivia Gorvy spoke about her former time as one of the first employees at Facebook in New York, and explained how this experience prepared her for her job at an Israeli startup.

The Israel Chamber of Foreign Trade (AHK), which provided the event space, also provided helpful input. Startup and tech expert Sharon Masury was available throughout to provide students with tips and advice, as well as more detailed information on possible internships.

Beyond the technical presentations, the excursion offered students fascinating insights into Israeli culture and life in Tel Aviv. The conclusion of the participants: an incomparable experience that contributed to both personal and professional development.
